Reza Rahbar, MD, FACS, FASCRS

Reza Rahbar, MD, FACS, FASCRS

Medical Director NC Colorectal Surgery

Reza Rahbar, MD, FACS, FASCRS, is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Rahbar received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his general surgery training at Harvard University’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and his colorectal fellowship at Louisiana State University.

Dr. Rahbar is an expert in minimally invasive surgery for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), colorectal cancer and diverticulitis. He is on the GI Health Foundation board of advisors for the management of fecal incontinence, has received many teaching awards, and is the Eastern U.S. Vice President of the International Society of University Colorectal Surgeons. In his free time, Dr. Rahbar enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids.

Timothy Sadiq, MD, FACS

Timothy Sadiq, MD, FACS, grew up in Kansas, where he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kansas and medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr. Sadiq completed his residency in general surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts.

In 2007, Dr. Sadiq returned to UNC-Chapel Hill to join the faculty, where he practiced for 13 years before transitioning to UNC-REX in 2020. He enjoys providing patient care to diverse patient populations across the full spectrum of colorectal surgery, particularly inflammatory bowel disease and complex re-operative surgery.

Laura Altom, MD, MSPH

Colorectal Surgeon

Dr. Altom attended medical school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She then completed her general surgery residency and Master’s in Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and went on to complete a Colorectal Surgery fellowship at The Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana. She has been with our practice since 2016. In her free time, she enjoys the mountains, spending time with her dog Riley, hiking, kayaking, gardening, and listening to all genres of music. Dr. Altom is an expert in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer and diverticulitis, as well as treatment of anorectal diseases. She is able to see patients in several locations, to include Raleigh, Cary, and Holly Springs. 

Meridith Ginesi, MD

Meridith Ginesi, MD grew up in Ohio where she attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at Summa Akron City Hospital. She then went on to complete a fellowship focusing on advanced minimally invasive colorectal techniques and research at University Hospitals Cleveland before doing her colorectal fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Florida.

Dr. Ginesi operates on the full breadth of colorectal issues including cancers of the colon, rectum and anus, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis and anorectal complaints. She has presented colorectal research both nationally and internationally and has won awards for both research and teaching. She has a strong focus in minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopic, robotic, and endoscopic technologies. Outside of work, she enjoys kayaking, going to the beach and spending time with her dog.
