Colorectal surgery success stories
I’m forever grateful
For the last 20 years, I have dealt with an extremely challenging case of Crohn’s disease, which has resulted in over 30 surgeries, a permanent ileostomy and, ultimately, short bowel syndrome. Over the years, I have been to many major hospitals from Boston to Cleveland and seen dozens of doctors. However, from the moment I met the Colorectal Division at UNC REX team, I immediately felt at ease. They have always gone above and beyond to help me. I truly can’t say enough great things about them, and I am forever grateful.
Team is both professional and warm
Following my diagnosis of colorectal cancer, I was, of course, apprehensive. However, after meeting with my surgeon and his nurse practitioner and having the robotic surgery explained in ‘layman’s language,’ my level of concern dropped rapidly. The day of surgery came and went with no complications, and I was back on my feet in no time. My pre-op, surgery and follow-up visits lead me to say this team is both professional and warm, and I would recommend them to anyone seeking such a treatment.
He was kind and thoughtful!
My experience with the Colorectal Division of North Carolina Surgery was exceptional! I was so fortunate to have been referred to them. My surgeon was kind and thoughtful, and he explained everything so thoroughly and offered me a hope that I had been living without for eight months! My surgeon also made it very clear that the options he presented were my decision. The whole team was wonderful, and their care before, during and after my surgery were so far beyond reasonable expectations! I would recommend them without hesitation!
With great gratitude!
I highly recommend Dr. Rahbar
I have undergone several surgeries with this team, and I have nothing but the utmost respect and confidence in the surgeons and staff. My surgeon is very caring and compassionate, as he answered all our questions in a most simplified way before and after surgery. My surgeon’s bedside manner in his office and at the hospital was great. The hospital nurses who worked with him regarded him as one of their favorites to work with. My surgeon checked on me daily – mornings and nights – during my hospital stays. His nurse practitioner and office staff were also good to work with. I highly recommend this team to anyone for their surgical needs.
My husband and I would highly recommend the Rex Colorectal Division
A few years ago, my husband went through several tests that led to a diagnosis of colorectal cancer. This was a most despairing and fearful time for us. He was referred to the UNC REX Colorectal Division for treatment. There we were met by a most-caring medical team who immediately gave us hope and eased our fears. From the first appointment, surgeries, hospitalizations and follow-up appointments, the medical care and bedside manner from this group were the very best, and for that, we are forever grateful. My husband and I would highly recommend the UNC REX Colorectal Division to anyone faced with a cancer diagnosis.
Thank you for giving my life back to me!
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis [UC] in 2013 and was able to stay in remission until October 2019, when it came back with a vengeance. Common medications, biological medications, and many rounds of steroids for UC were all failing, and I was miserable. After several long discussions with my primary gastrointestinal doctor, he recommended that I meet with a surgeon at UNC REX. The word ‘surgery’ will scare anyone, but if I had a crystal ball and could have known what my life would be like now (14 weeks post-op) compared to what it was the past two years, I would’ve done it sooner.
It was a difficult journey and some days were pretty tough, but in the beginning, my surgeon told me his primary concern was my quality of life, long term. My life is so much better now – practically normal – and I can do most things I was able to do before my diagnosis. The entire staff is first-class and top-notch, and I am forever grateful for them. Thank you for giving my life back to me!
Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful care I received! Although I was dealing with a sensitive situation, you helped me in a professional but gentle and kind manner, which put me at ease. I will recommend you highly to my friends! Thank you!
Thank all personnel at Rex Colorectal Division
In early May 2018, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. By mid-May, I had met with the surgeon at UNC REX to discuss my options. By Memorial Day weekend 2018, I was already in surgery to remove the cancer as well as investigate any possible areas adjacent to the cancerous tumor.
During the surgery and subsequent hospital stay, communication between the doctors and nurses with both my family and me was impeccable. The relationship I felt at the time helped me determine that all future three- and six-month follow-up visits would be at UNC REX, even though I had to travel from Rocky Mount for the visits. I would like to once again thank all personnel at UNC REX Colorectal Division for their sincere compassion and treatment during this difficult time in my life.
Forever Grateful
I have spent the last several years in pain and discomfort. I have tried countless medications and seen different physicians to try and find a resolution. The advice I heard the most was to live a normal life and just ignore it. Until you have suffered from constant and painful constipation, it’s hard to imagine how difficult that is to do. I avoided restaurants, friends, shopping and virtually any outing.
I called the office of the Colorectal Division of North Carolina Surgery by pure chance. For the first time, the team offered me an alternative solution. My surgeon explained to me what colonic inertia was and how it was not just constipation. He explained how surgery could offer relief. During the entire process, my surgeon and his nurse practitioner were always present and made sure I was doing OK. They were both excellent communicators and made me feel listened to.
Following surgery and recovery, I have gotten my life back. I am back participating in sports, going out with friends and family and just living a normal life. I am so thankful to have found this team and will be eternally grateful to them for giving me my life back!
Forever Grateful.
Dr. Sadiq and his staff are one of a kind!
The whole team there is one of a kind! I was there for 45 days, and each day I felt like they listened to me and always tried to make me feel better, unlike most doctors I’ve seen in the past. The surgeons go to considerable lengths to find the source of the issue and resolve the problem, and that’s why I trusted them so much. Everybody there will give their finest to get you back on the right track to recovery, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone! I was so lucky to end up there, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
